Long tops, maxi skirts and wide leg trousers are just a few of the items that spring to mind when people think of what to wear in Dubai.

Generally it's thought that you need to cover up head-to-toe in the predominantly Muslim country, but it's not as strict as you think when it comes to western fashion.

You can still be trendy and respectful to the locals while on holiday on to Dubai. And I will show you how with these staples...

Culotte Jumpsuits

With average temperatures of 35°C, these work well on a day out in the sun, especially in the desert heat.

Ribbed Strappy Culotte Jumpsuit in White, £18, Missguided

Off The Shoulder Dresses

Bare your shoulders on a humid Dubai night out in one of these.

Carmen Off Shoulder Ruffle Shift Dress, £18, Boohoo

High Waisted Trousers

Opt for a wide-leg or tapered high waisted trouser to accentuate your hips without showing too much skin for a day or evening look.

Zig Zag Trousers, £45, Warehouse
High Waist Tapered Trousers, £25, ASOS

Pleated Midi and Maxi Skirts

Leave a lot to the imagination with a flowy midi or a split maxi skirt.

Sugar Flower Maxi Skirt, £38, Topshop
New Look Satin Pleated Midi Skirt, £24,99, ASOS

Kimonos and Kaftans

Be sure to carry one of these around Dubai, whether you're going to the beach or walking around the city itself. Plus it's definitely handy to have one of these when you're in the mall - it can get particularly chilly (brrrr...)

Black Floral Print Maxi Kaftan, £45, River Island
Patterned Kimono, £59,99, H&M
